The Pine Barrens is a natural treasure in Long Island, where you can find a variety of plants and animals that thrive in the sandy soil and dry climate. One of the best ways to explore this area is by hiking on the Paumanok Path, a 125-mile trail that runs from Rocky Point to Montauk Point State Park. The trail offers many access points and sections for different levels of difficulty and interest.

One of the most accessible and enjoyable sections of the trail is the Pine Barrens Paumanok Path and Yellow Trail Loop, which is near Manorville. This loop is only 2 miles long and takes about 37 minutes to complete. It is a great route for hiking and running, and you can bring your dog along as long as you keep it on a leash.

To start the hike, you need to go to the Pine Barrens Trail Center in Manorville. From there, you can follow the yellow trail markers that will take you to the outer trail that connects back to the Paumanok Path. Along the way, you will see the beauty of the pine forest ecosystem, which is made up of pitch pines, scrub oaks, blueberries, and huckleberries. You might also encounter some wildlife, such as deer, foxes, turkeys, woodpeckers, and blue jays.

The loop trail is well-marked and easy to follow, but you can also use a map or a guide to help you navigate.
